It was a summer day like any other in the Schlitterbahn water parking lot in Kansas City, but for one family a thrilling adventure on the highest water supply in the world has turned into an unimaginable nightmare.
Slide Verruckt, which rises to more than 168 feet, promised an exciting rush – yet no one could expect the horror he was expecting. The devastating tragedy that occurred when ten -year -old Caleb Schwab went after a slip, chased those who were there and left a deep and persistent sense of distrust.
What was supposed to be entertaining was quickly spiraling into a heartbreaking disaster that would forever change the lives of the Caleb family. As soon as the story of Caleb’s tragic accident, questions about security measures, deficiencies of design and consequences continue to be swirling.
The tragic words of a twelve -year -old boy were revealed after his ten -year -old brother was decapitated on the water chassis once charged as the highest in the world.
In 2016, 10-year-old Caleb Schwab and his family-Foot Scott, mother Michele and older brother Nathan-in Kansas City visited Schlitterbahn Waterpark. One of the main attractions of the park was Verruckt, who held the title of the highest water slip in the world. The name “Verruckt” comes from the German word for “fool” and was designed by John Schooly. Standing on the eye by watering 168 feet and 7 inches (51.38 meters) represented a steep 17-storey drop followed by a 55-stop top of the ridge. To prevent the riders from falling, the slide was covered with mesh, supported by metal poles in certain areas.
The tragedy intervened when Caleb, who rode a slip with his family, was forcibly worthy of the net. The power made him hit one of the metal poles and was immediately decapitated.
The eyewitness later remembered the horror and described it as “such a terrible moment as you can imagine”.
At the base of the film, Caleb’s older brother Nathan witnessed the incident. He was the one who had to tell his parents what happened.
At the heart of Nathan, he shouted, “He flew from Verruckt, flew from Verruckt,” according to their mother Michele, who spoke to ABC News in 2017.
The resident’s commissioner prevented Michele from approaching the scene and said, “Believe me, you don’t want to go anymore.”

Michele, already amazed by this situation, shared, “In my mind I knew I shouldn’t see it, I probably didn’t want to see it.”
After the incident, the Schwab family achieved unpublished settlement with the previous park owners. Family lawyers confirmed that the entitlements against the amusement park and raft manufacturers were resolved. They continued to carry out legal steps against the company in Texas Henry & Sons, which built Verruckt Slide, as well as a consultant who assessed the film before its opening to the public.
Schlitterbahn Waterparks and Resorts issued a statement that expresses their sadness: “For 50 years of providing environment for families and friends to gather, we have never experienced this kind of devastating event. The safety of our employees and our guests is our highest priority.
In September 2018, a water park turned off in September 2018.
This unimaginable tragedy continues to chase all affected. Rest in peace, Caleb.
Conclusion
The tragic and unimaginable loss of ten -year -old Caleba Schwab serves as a sharp reminder of the importance of security in entertainment parks and the potential consequences of overlooking critical security measures.
The devastating events that have developed on Verruckt Water Slide will forever be improved in the minds of those who have witnessed it, and in the hearts of Caleb’s family who have been left to deal with an irreplaceable loss. Despite legal management and settlements, no amount of compensation can cancel the pain that the Schwab family will continue to last. When we think about this heartbreaking tragedy, we resemble the need for increased security standards in all public attractions to prevent such devastating incidents from being again. Rest in peace, Caleb.
