Tragedy at North Carolina Pool Party: One Dead, Eleven Injured in Late-Night Shooting
What started as a lively summer celebration ended in tragedy on a quiet street in North Carolina.
Just after midnight, in the early hours of June 1, gunfire shattered the peace in the Mountain View community near Hickory, turning a neighborhood pool party into a crime scene.
Authorities confirm that at least one person has died and eleven others were injured in the shooting, which took place around 12:45 a.m. on Walnut Acres Drive—a small cul-de-sac tucked away about 60 miles northwest of Charlotte.
According to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, the violence unfolded during a large gathering that drew around 100 attendees, including minors.
From Celebration to Chaos
Witnesses described a typical summer night: music, laughter, and splashing from the pool. Then came the sudden burst of gunfire, described by one neighbor as seemingly random and mostly concentrated outside the house. Panic followed, with partygoers scrambling for safety in the dark.
The crime scene now spans several locations—the inside of the home, the front and back yards, and even nearby properties. Investigators say multiple weapons were involved, and they are working to determine the types and how they were brought into the party.
Victims and Ongoing Investigation
Out of the twelve confirmed victims, one has died, another remains in critical condition, and several others are still hospitalized. Major Aaron Turk of the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the complexity of the scene, noting the number of people present and the multiple locations involved.
The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation in collaboration with the Hickory Police Department and special agents from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. Despite ongoing efforts, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not released any details about potential suspects or motives.
