I knew an extremely rich, kind woman who owned several huge estates. She hired live-in nannies for her adopted stray dogs and placed them in separate rooms.
When I was a teenager I helped out a lot at some of her mansions and she paid me well. The dogs had a regimen they had to follow and some chefs prepared their food from scratch. Sometimes a dietician was present to supervise them. I still vividly remember filling each bowl with huge raw turkey legs.
We had to be pretty strict about the dog’s room and roaming time. In addition to learning fun tricks and other skills from the professional and his team in the morning, some of the affected pups received physical therapy sessions. Then they ate lunch. Around 3 pm they let them play in their playground which consisted of football pitches and they played together for 4 hours until 6 pm.
If they lingered outside too long, we could employ an adorable sheepdog to help herd them back inside. Seeing how canines have a better life than me made me feel a little detached and unforgettable.
