Two parents from South Carolina are currently facing legal consequences following the discovery of their six-month-old twins being subjected to rat attacks in their rundown trailer home. 

Akayla and Justin Beard, both 24 years old, dialed 911 to report their newborn daughter covered in blood and were subsequently taken into custody on Friday. 

Upon the arrival of officers from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, they discovered the baby girl and her twin brother, both with numerous bite wounds and cuts inflicted by the rodents. The young girl had severe cuts on her head, ears, cheeks, arms, and back that were bleeding when found in her crib. 

The baby was brought to Greenville Memorial Hospital, which is located near their Belton, South Carolina residence, and is anticipated to stay in the hospital for several days.

The twin brother was discovered to have bite marks on his feet as well. Both children were entrusted to the care of the department of social services. 

During the interrogation, the parents confessed that rats had been a recurring issue in their residence for several months. Authorities disclosed that a third child was placed under the care of the Department of Social Services, but their identity remains undisclosed. 

Akayla and Justin were apprehended after confessing that they knowingly permitted their twins to reside in a house infested with rats. 

They have been accused of two charges of neglecting a minor. Their subsequent court appearance is set for Tuesday.
