Shirlene Hernandez, a resident of San Antonio, Texas, endured the assault while making a quick stop at a Shell gas station to grab a Diet Coke. The assailant forcefully grabbed her keys, repeatedly striking her in the face, causing injuries.
Despite the intervention of three witnesses who tried to stop and confront the assailant, he managed to escape with the stolen vehicle, according to law enforcement officials. However, authorities later discovered the carjacker’s lifeless body inside a wrecked car on the freeway.
Reflecting on the incident, Hernandez expressed a sense of compassion, stating that while many might believe in karma and retribution, all she felt was sorrow for his demise. Despite the harm he caused her, she believes that the higher power decided to relieve him from his suffering.
Hernandez is currently in the process of healing, bearing visible facial injuries, and facing the challenge of finding alternative means of transportation for her daily work routine. Realizing the financial and logistical obstacles ahead, she is actively considering her options.
In a heartwarming show of support, local residents, including Hernandez’s granddaughter Helen Garcia, initiated a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for a replacement vehicle. Initially aiming for a $5,000 target, the campaign has already surpassed $23,000 in donations as of Tuesday morning.
We send our best wishes to Hernandez for a swift recovery, hoping she can soon resume her normal routine.
