As fate would have it, Raymond passed away on August 4 with Velva’s hand in his. Just 30 hours later, Velva was reunited with her beloved in paradise. Raymond was 97 years old at the time of his passing, while Velva was 96 years old.

When the family began preparing for the couple’s burial, they remembered Raymond’s suggestion that they be buried together. Despite the fact that it was made in jest, the family realized that it was the perfect way for them to remain together for eternity. The couple was buried in a single casket, holding hands as they had done for 77 years of marriage.
