9-Year-Old Moto Racer Lorenzo Somaschini Tragically Passes Away in Crash During Honda Junior Cup Practice

Lorenzo Somaschini, a young motorcycle racer, died tragically on Monday 17th June after a fatal accident during practice for the Honda Junior Cup in Brazil.

SuperBike Brazil, the sponsor of the event, confirmed Somaschini’s death in an official statement.

“It is with deep sadness and regret that SuperBike Brasil announces the passing of rider Lorenzo Somaschini on Monday, June 17 at 19:43,” read a statement translated from Portuguese. The Argentine from Rosario was admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo, where he was placed in the intensive care unit, but unfortunately,y he did not survive.

SuperBike Brazil also mentioned that it has provided “full support” to Somaschini’s family since Friday, June 14, when the incident occurred.

Somaschini crashed during the first free practice of the Honda Junior Cup at Interlagos Autódromo on Friday.

“Immediately after falling on the Pinheirinha exit, the rider was quickly treated by the on-site medical team and transported by ICU ambulance,” the statement continued. “He was stabilized in the emergency room at the race track before being transferred to Hospital Geral da Pedreira for advanced mobile ICU. He remained there until Saturday morning, following all medical protocols, before being transferred to Albert Einstein Hospital.

The statement concluded: “The entire SuperBike Brasil team is deeply shocked by this tragedy and extends its sincere condolences to Lorenzo’s family and friends.”
