A 14-year-old runaway from Kansas tragically takes his own life in front of a sheriff’s deputy after refusing to return home

On Sunday evening, September 16, a 14-year-old girl tragically committed suicide in front of a nearby sheriff’s deputy. In Aurora, Kansas, Jelly Chilson was at an outdoor meeting when she ran away from her home earlier that day.

Upon learning that the child had run away, the Cloud County Sheriff’s Office sent a deputy to try to locate him and bring him back home. After the deputy detained him, efforts were made to convince him to return, but regrettably, he chose to end his own life with a gunshot.

As stated in the Cloud County Sheriff’s Department press release, “A state deputy responded to an outdoor field meeting attended by college and high school students, which occurred near 210th R. and Lark Rd. in Aurora.” The police department reported that the deputy found Chilson.” and followed him to his patrol car. Now.” Regrettably, he ended his own life with a firearm.  It is important that the deputy did not draw his weapon.

Despite the quick and dedicated efforts of both the deputy and an off-duty firefighter to save the young girl, her life could not be spared, and she was formally pronounced deceased at the scene shortly after midnight.
