A cat passed away and arrived at heaven’s gates, where God greeted him warmly.
“You’ve been a loyal companion all your life,” God said. “Here, anything you desire is yours—just ask.” The cat paused, then said, “I spent years living with a poor farm family, often curled up on cold, hard wooden floors.” God smiled kindly and replied, “Consider it done.” Suddenly, a soft, cloud-like pillow appeared beneath the cat, inviting him to rest.
A few days later, six little mice showed up. God welcomed them and offered the same promise. The mice explained, “Our whole lives, we’ve had to dart and dash from cats, dogs, and even broom-wielding humans. If only we had roller skates, we wouldn’t have to run all the time.” God chuckled softly. “No problem.” In an instant, each mouse was outfitted with a tiny set of shiny roller skates, ready to glide instead of flee.
About a week later, God checked back on the cat, who was snoozing peacefully. Gently, God woke him and asked, “Are you happy here?” The cat stretched luxuriously and purred, “I’m more content than ever—especially with those ‘Meals on Wheels’ you keep bringing me!”
This charming story reminds us that what we think we want isn’t always what brings us true joy. While the mice found freedom in their skates, the cat found happiness in small comforts and thoughtful care. Sometimes, the simplest kindnesses make all the difference in a life well lived.
