The pilot of the National Geographic Wicked Tuna program lost his life in the ship tragedy.

Charlie Griffin disappeared Sunday night on a boat in the Outer Banks of North Carolina with a friend.

The Coast Guard reports that around 11 p.m. On Sunday night, two boats that left Virginia Beach were delayed and arrived in Wanchese, North Carolina, where their vessel required repairs.

A Coast Guard representative told The Virginian-Pilot that they had not been seen or heard from since 6:15 p.m. that evening.

Coast Guard personnel and other rescuers discovered the empty boat on Monday.

When they entered, they discovered the bodies of Griffin and his dog.

As of Monday night, authorities were still searching for the second person who was supposed to be traveling with them.

Griffin’s death was confirmed by a tragic message on his Reels of Fortune Facebook page.

The statement read: “It is with the deepest sadness that we announce that Charlie Griffin and his beloved dog Leila died in a boating accident today.” In the picture, Griffin was shown smiling and enjoying the sun.

“Please keep the family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.”

In Wicked Tuna Season 2, Griffin began his career as an actor in North Carolina, where he remained until Season 5.

National Geographic’s current reality TV show is about seasoned fishermen who make a living catching huge fish that can fetch tens of thousands of dollars.

The top-performing angler is deemed the champion at the end of the season, earning bragging rights for life.

Griffin triumphed as the fourth season drew to a close.
