It was one of those cold, frightening evenings when it seemed that the wind had carried more than just cooling – he made a sense of fear.
The playground was unusually quiet, except for the sound of a little girl, herself, a clutching teddy bear sitting on a swing. She waited. Waiting for someone who has never come. I knew a little what looked like an innocent scene, going to disintegrate into a heartbreaking secret that would change everything.
What happened, led me along the way I never predicted, and it was a phone call – a simple phone call – which turned everything upside down. What I found would haunt me, but it would also remind me why I do the work I do.
