We often forget how vulnerable women can be during childbirth. Even in this time, with the advances in medical science, much can go wrong. This family, unfortunately, suffered a rare setback and lost their loved one as a result… read on to learn more.
Kelly Tyler is pregnant for the fifth time. The young Oklahoma mother was thrilled to become a mother for the fifth time. She actively posted updates on her pregnancy. However, shortly after giving birth for the fifth time, Kelly sadly died from rare complications due to childbirth. Last week, Tyler changed her profile picture on Facebook as she prepared to give birth again. Then, a day later, he died.
“Pentecolic fluid entered Kelly’s bloodstream [and] she was losing more blood than she could absorb,” Julie Roach, Tyler’s mother, explained. “I think my granddaughter said the last words — she said — ‘I’d love to.’” Amniotic fluid embolism is a “dangerous and life-threatening complication,” according to Cleveland Clinic. This complication can occur either during a baby’s birth or in the immediate aftermath. Its potential lethality arises from the fact that it is exceptionally challenging to diagnose, as its symptoms often mirror those of other critical childbirth complications.
That’s why, as stated on the Cleveland Clinic website, “for reasons that often remain a mystery, some individuals experience severe allergic reactions when amniotic fluid mixes with their blood.” These reactions can potentially lead to cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, or pneumonia. “In her final moments,” Roach remembered, “she would briefly awaken, only to drift back into slumber.” During those moments, Tyler was in the midst of giving birth to her daughter, Jali. Whether Jali will face any enduring health challenges due to her traumatic birth remains uncertain. The family won’t have a clearer picture “until she’s a bit older.”
“Jali won’t really see her mother. But he will see his mother. We have pictures, we have recordings that we’ll play over and over again,” Roach said.
