Andrea West, a resilient and courageous mother, shares her heartbreaking journey of loss and the subsequent challenges she faced. Her story touched the hearts of many parents who had experienced similar hardships and inspired them to come forward and share their own experiences.
Mother Andrea West is a strong woman. She explains the unfortunate events that led to her child’s death and the accompanying agony she went through.
Her husband’s story resonated with many other parents who have experienced a similar situation and were motivated to speak up.
The college students knew they would be together for the rest of their lives as soon as their eyes met.
After getting hitched in October 2006, they moved into Andrea’s house in New Jersey. The news that she was expecting a child made their lives even more idyllic. Their lives were like a fairy tale.
Love what matters
Andrea felt bad for a long time after the baby’s death, but her husband told her that everything would be fine.
Shortly after, Andrea became pregnant again, and this time she was determined to control her weight through a healthier lifestyle.
zero diet Coke, soft cheese, sushi, lunch meat, or anything else on the “naughty list” which is my lifeline. I read blogs and participated in community forums.
The decoration of my child’s room is done in accordance with the “appropriate” rules that I learned about in the literature. When I realized I was having a boy, my heart grew three sizes.
My dream of becoming the mother of a boy has been my goal for as long as I can remember. The proud parents brought their rainbow baby into the world on September 21.
Despite the low level of amniotic fluid, Andrea only experienced a short labor and spontaneous birth. They named their child Adam in memory of her husband’s friend who died at the age of 21 from a brain tumor.
The new parents were overjoyed but had a sneaking suspicion that something was wrong when, instead of calling Andrea’s husband, the doctor cut the umbilical cord himself.
The doctor then gave them the news that changed their lives forever. Adam’s leg doesn’t seem quite right, honey.
I was exhausted, bordering on delirious, and all I wanted to do was hug my baby, but I’ll never forget what I said. I’m sure it’s just a bruise.
When I gave birth in the university hospital, there must have been twenty people in the delivery room at the same time. Doctors and students saw it before I could see my child.
They only spent a short time with me before rushing him to the NICU. Suddenly everyone took off.
The newborn had red spots and bruises on his belly and part of his leg, which were later found to be caused by a rare vascular disease called Cutis Marmorata Telangiectatic Congenita (CMTC).
Only about 500 cases of the disease have been reported so far. I have never seen a person as strikingly handsome as him. I present to you, my rainbow baby.
He would be fine, wouldn’t he? I felt ecstatic and heartbroken at the same time. Adam underwent a series of tests, including a heart and brain ultrasound, before being found medically stable and released from the hospital.
In the first weeks of his life, Adam visited a number of dermatologists, geneticists, and orthopedists. The test results of these medical personnel were consistently negative.
Since Adam’s birth, his parents have learned as much as possible about his condition. At one of the many conferences they attended, they met other families in Washington, DC, whose children also suffered from the disease.
In a place where CMTC is mostly unknown even among medical professionals, Andrea and her husband have put a lot of effort into raising awareness about it.
The only thing these parents were worried about was whether their son Adam would fit in with his friends. So far, he is doing great and keeping up with his classmates in every way. He plays sports and likes to spend time with his friends.
In a world that often struggles to accept differences, stories like Andrea’s and Adam’s serve as reminders of the power of love, resilience, and community support. Their journey shows the power of the family bond and the transformative impact of empathy and understanding. Through her advocacy efforts and unwavering love, she strives to create a more inclusive and compassionate society where every child is accepted and accepted regardless of their special needs.
