A diagnosis of Xeroderma Pigmentosum in a 33-year-old woman at three years of age puts her at higher risk of flesh cancer. Due to its ‘one in a million’ condition, it is extremely sensitive to light and could burn horribly with even a short exposure. She spent most of her childhood indoors because it was too dangerous to spend time outside the house.
“When I’m exposed to the sun, I don’t feel anything, it doesn’t happen right away. But later the lesions develop and require removal because of cancer,” he explains.
Due to sun damage, Karine lost her lower lip and part of her nose. Since then, she has undergone 130 surgeries to remove the lesions.

Unfortunately, her problems are not limited to her physical condition. Karine is regularly harassed and verbally abused by community members and online.
Despite her problems, however, she found love and happiness. She was discovered on Facebook by Edmilson, the man she eventually married, who was immediately captivated by her “story and her strength.” He always knew that Karine was the person he would spend the rest of his life with, and he never left her. It meant a lot to Karine that he married her three children from a previous relationship.
“He came in and showed me that I could live a real love story,” she continues.

But when Karine shared their photos online, she received even more hateful comments.
Karine stated: “We have already read many offensive comments calling me a monster, deformed, zombie,” reports the Daily Mail.
Due to her wealth, Karine was called a “sugar mama” by some commentators, suggesting that their relationship was not real.
“Because he’s a young man and handsome, it caught people’s attention and they didn’t believe he was with me because he really likes me,” Karine explained.
