Burke remembers spending a lot of time traveling. She was worn out and experiencing physical discomfort. Burke said she felt something was wrong, but no one could tell her what. She was diagnosed with the Epstein-Barr virus, but she had a hunch it was something else. After performing the required tests, one doctor informed the patient that she had diabetes.

Back then he was also taking care of her mother and was barely aware of her needs. While taking medication for her condition, her doctor advised her to change her diet because she might need insulin therapy.

After a protracted battle, her mother finally recovered. Burke praised her husband for always being by her side, making sure she took her medication, and taking care of her. In 2004, McRaney successfully battled lung cancer.

She credits McRaney for taking care of her, especially helping with her insulin injections as she now needs them. She said he loved her when she was the size of a house. He loved her in her good times and bad.
