It was a seemingly ordinary day, but I knew little that a random meeting in a café would have moved a number of events that would leave me stunned and winning.
One man’s arrogant behavior would soon come back to bite him as he never expected. What began with a spilled coffee and an insult would end in the moment of poetic justice, and I would be the one who would witness all that developed.
This is the story of how I turned the tables to a man who thought he could get away and treat me like a cornea.
After the interview, Catherine’s day unexpectedly turned when an arrogant man spilled hot coffee in the café and then blamed her of the mess. He knew a little, the next day he would bring him the perfect dose of karma.
My name is Catherine.
It was just another afternoon in a cafe near my office. My friend and I had lunch at the counter when a man wiped around us and caused my coffee to overthrow.
The hot liquid soaked my dress and left a big stain.
I reminded myself that accidents occur. I wasn’t frantic – just a little angry with my destroyed clothes. I expected a quick apology, maybe even an offer to help. But instead, the man turned to me with frowning.
“You should really watch where you are sitting. That was your fault,” he said.
I was impressed. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me,” he replied, dripping his tone with superiority. “Women like you always make a big problem. Maybe if you weren’t so absorbed, it wouldn’t happen.”
All our eyes were on us. My friend looked as if she could explode, but I put her hand on her arm and calmly told her to stay folded. Despite his humiliating words, I decided to argue. I grabbed my purse, wiped as much as I could, and left a café, my face was burning with a mixture of embarrassment and frustration.
He knew a little that it wasn’t the last time we crossed the roads.
The next day I arrived to work early. As a project manager in my company, I was supposed to plan interviews with a new consultant for an important project. When I entered the conference room, I couldn’t believe my eyes – sitting at the table was the same arrogant man from the café.
His face fell when he knew me, and although he tried to act cool, it was clear that he was unpleasant. I went straight to the head of the table.
“Good morning, everyone,” I said, my voice calm but firm. “Let’s start with the interview.” I introduced myself as a project management hoping to join. The rest of the panel had no idea what happened the day before, but I saw a man throwing himself with every question I asked.
Although I maintained fair and professional all the time, I made sure I would ask him about his ability to respect the diverse team. At the end of the conversation he was visibly sweating. After leaving the room, I hit it into the hallway.
Stampal: “Look, yesterday -“
I cut it off. “There’s no need to explain. Your actions have spoken for themselves. We expect professionalism and respect in this society and I don’t think you are right for this role.”
He opened his mouth to protest, but I didn’t hold on to hear it. I went away and held my head high.
Next week, our team hired another consultant – someone qualified, cooperation and respected. As for the arrogant man from the café, I can only hope that he has learned an important lesson in handling others with respect and kindness.
Sometimes karma does not last long to do my job, and this time I had to see it first hand.
In the end, the incident in the café proved to be a strong reminder of the importance of dealing with others with respect, regardless of the situation. While the justified man might have thought he could get away with his rough behavior, Karma quickly caught up with him.
Catherine with grace and professionalism ensured that his actions had consequences, not confrontation, but by the manifestation of Pois and integrity. As a result, not only the right candidate was hired for this work, but an arrogant man also got a lesson in humility. This story proves that sometimes it stands tall and remains faithful to values in something the best way to turn tables and let the karma the rest.
