Auto DraftTargeted Attack in Fremont: Man Arrested for Murder After Using Deceptive Ruse

Fremont Man Arrested for Fatal Stabbing in Planned Vigilante Attack

FREMONT — Authorities arrested 29-year-old Varun Suresh Thursday following the fatal stabbing of 71-year-old David Brimmer at a home on Upper Vintners Circle. Police responded to reports of a disturbance around noon and found Brimmer unresponsive with multiple stab wounds. Despite emergency medical efforts, Brimmer was pronounced dead at the scene.

Court documents reveal that Suresh targeted Brimmer due to his prior conviction for lewd and lascivious acts with a child, information Suresh obtained through California’s Megan’s Law registry. Suresh admitted harboring a desire to kill s*x offenders, believing they “deserve to die,” and cited a quote stating, “It is not your duty to decide whether Heaven will accept them, it’s your duty to send them to the gates.”

Investigators say Suresh meticulously planned the attack. He took screenshots of Brimmer’s profile 45 minutes before calling 911. To gain access to the home, Suresh reportedly posed as a CPA going door-to-door, carrying a bag, notebook, and coffee to appear legitimate. He used the same tactic on neighbors to avoid suspicion before approaching Brimmer.

Suresh shook Brimmer’s hand to confirm his identity before forcing his way inside. Brimmer attempted to defend himself with a rock, but Suresh chased and stabbed him multiple times in the throat and neck. During the attack, Suresh reportedly asked Brimmer if he “believes in God” and told him to say his last words. Suresh later admitted he didn’t plan on escaping and expected to be arrested.

After his arrest, Suresh showed no remorse and described the killing as “honestly really fun.” He believed public opinion might side with him because the victim was a convicted pedophile.

This is not Suresh’s first run-in with law enforcement. In 2021, he was arrested for making a false bomb threat, motivated by similar vigilante intentions against a hotel executive he suspected of abuse.

Suresh is currently held on suspicion of murder. No court date has been set.
