A man surprised himself with what he saw on the receipt the server brought him after serving two homeless people at lunch.
He sat down to lunch and looked out the window. For the first time in a long time, he didn’t have a ton of things to do, so he just wanted to take in the environment. However, he was moved by two small children licking their lips by the window and watching the others eat. He decided to treat them and the waiter then delivered the bill.
Two small children followed the elderly man. He handed them a menu and smiled as he asked about their food preferences. Confused, they tossed the menu and motioned to the food he had chosen for himself. He called the waiter over and placed a second order for two of the same.
The brother and sister exchanged glances before eating the soup, first cautiously as if they were afraid of something, then warmly. Dad felt like he’d earned an extra coffee today because he did something good, so he got ice cream for them for dessert. Once the children had gone home, the man ordered another cup of coffee.
When the waiter soon gave him the bill, he was stunned to see a letter instead of the usual numbers: “You can’t save them all! But you managed to save two today! I’ve had enough!”
The man took a long look at the message before taking it with him. Now he was sure that the good was also coming back to him like a boomerang.
