Beloved Comedian and Actor Has Died at Home Today

Martin Mull was a popular actor and comedian. His family says he died aged 80.

The tragic news was shared on Instagram by Mull’s daughter Maggie, who said her father had died at home “after a brave battle with a long illness”.

“He was known for excelling in every creative discipline imaginable, as well as doing commercials for Red Roof Inn,” she informed us.

“That joke would make him laugh. He was a comedian all along. My dad will be greatly missed by friends, co-workers, other artists, comedians, musicians, and most of all, a huge number of pets. His daughter and wife would also be very sad to see Dad go. I was incredibly in love with him.”

Mull’s best-known roles were probably as Roseanne Connor’s boyfriend Leon Carp in the sitcom of the same name and as coach Willard Kraft in Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

He also portrayed Gene Parmesan, a private eye, in the television series Arrested Development.

For his work as Bob Bradley on Veep, Mull received his first and only Emmy nomination in 2016.

Mull has worked in a variety of positions throughout his career. For example, in 1985 he wrote the mockumentary The History of White People in America with Fred Willard.

He enjoyed making music and making others laugh. Country icon Jane Morgan parodied A Boy Named Sue in his song A Girl Named Johnny Cash, released in the early 1970s.

It spent five weeks at the top of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

Mull made a living by singing parodies of popular songs and playing guitar in clubs. He even served as an opening act for Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Randy Newman, and Frank Zappa.

“Mull’s quirky sense of humor is evident on all of his albums, but he’s not a parody artist like Weird Al,” said a review on AllMusic.com.

“His albums are warped singer/songwriter pop/rock with a heavy jazz influence that just happens to have funny lyrics.”

A SUCCESSFUL JOURNEY

Sabrina Spellman on the popular TV show played by Melissa Joan Hart talked about her former principal who made many mistakes.

“My friend, rest in peace.” “Principal Kraft, the incredible #MartinMull, has passed away and is now with God,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I have such fond memories of working with him and being in awe of his extensive body of work which before #SabrinaTheTeemageWitch included #Roseanne and #MrMom as projects I knew him from.”

Hart added that Mull continued to accept recurring and guest roles on other shows after Sabrina ended.

“He once told me he would take any job he was offered in case he stopped the train, which tends to stop quickly in this business,” she continued.

However, he enjoyed using his hands to paint and build objects. Being a great person and musician makes me a better person. Although he will be missed, his presence made the world a better place. I am so sorry for the loss of his friends and family.

“I will continue to love the Martin Mull artwork that hangs in my house!”

Mull was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 18, 1943. His mother was an actress and director and his father worked as a carpenter.

As a child, he lived in North Ridgeville, Ohio, and New Canaan, Connecticut.

He intended to pursue a career in painting at the Rhode Island School of Design. He intended to earn a master’s degree in painting and a bachelor’s degree in fine arts.
