A Boarding Pass to Denver and a Four-Star Military Pin
I had exactly twelve minutes before the forward cabin door closed for departure.
I called my older sister, Laura, in Denver.
She picked up on the second ring.
“Tell me you’re already sitting on the plane,” Laura said.
Her words came fast, with her usual warm rush of nervous energy.
“We’re in our seats,” I said.
“The flight lands at five.”
“Good,” Laura said.
