Luca turned back to me, and the transformation was complete.

The navy suit was the same, but the man inside it was gone.

The smooth talk, the easy confidence, the casual cruelty he had displayed ten minutes earlier, all of it had evaporated, leaving behind a pale, frightened, undone man standing on a porch that was no longer his.
