Nausea rolled through me. The house had always been the one secure thing in my life.
My mother had left me a small inheritance, and Dad had helped me put it toward the down payment.
Travis had always resented that his name never made it onto the original purchase agreement — though apparently that resentment hadn’t stopped him from borrowing against it.
Chapter 6 — By Monday
At seven the next morning, my supervisor called. Her name was Monica Reyes, and she’d run the pharmacy where I’d worked for five years.
“Julia,” she said carefully, “someone contacted corporate compliance last night. They claim you’ve been stealing prescription medication and selling it.”
