I saw the box, and my heart lifted so fast and so high inside my chest that the whole doorway went briefly dizzy around me.

This was it.

This was the moment I had daydreamed through for five years, arriving at last on an ordinary Sunday, and I remember thinking, with a giddy clarity, that I would remember every detail of it for the rest of my life.

I was right about that last part, at least.

I have remembered every detail.

Just not for the reason I expected.
