Chapter 20 — Right Here With Me

One quiet afternoon, my son asked to visit the cemetery.

I did not push him toward it; he chose it himself.

We walked side by side to the two granite stones, one bearing my wife’s name, Claire, and the other bearing his own: TOBY DRAKE, with his real birth date and a death date for a day he had not died.

He stood looking at his own name carved deep in the grey stone.
