Wade took an itemized ledger page out of his file.

“Yesterday afternoon Arthur moved four hundred dollars out of Mother’s care fund.

He called it a trustee management fee.”

“Can he legally do that before probate?” I asked.

“He did it with one stroke of his bank pen,” Wade said.

“He knows Mother doesn’t have the months it would take to fight him in probate court.”

“Did she understand what was in paragraph four?” I asked.

Wade pushed his glasses up his nose.
