Arthur had filled out an emergency restriction request, listing himself as legal head of the church oversight board in order to keep all non-family visitors out of Room 214.

“He wanted her cut off until Monday morning,” Helen said.

“Why didn’t you write down his request?” I asked.

“Because he has no legal medical authority over Room 214,” Helen said.

“And because I tap my clipboard every time a parish elder tries to bully a floor nurse.”

She came up the center aisle and stopped at the altar rail facing me.

“Are you still going ahead with the ceremony Saturday?” she asked.
