Chapter 17 — The Renovated Office

An hour later, I stood alone in the high-ceilinged corner office on the top floor of the Vance Global tower, and I let myself take in how completely it had changed.

The room had been entirely renovated.

The dark, suffocating leather furniture and the heavy mahogany paneling that Julian had favored were gone, all of it, hauled away and replaced with floor-to-ceiling glass, and warm oak, and lush green plants that caught the afternoon sunlight and softened the whole space.

The air no longer smelled of expensive cigars and heavy cologne, the scent of the man who had ruled here and tried to have me killed.
