Conflating the two produces confusion that does not serve either the science or the public understanding of it.

The Andamanese Connection

Among the Australasian populations most frequently cited in the Population Y literature as showing the highest affinity to the relevant South American and ancient Lagoa Santa populations are the Andamanese — the Indigenous people of the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal, between India and Myanmar.

The Andamanese are particularly interesting in this context because of their specific position in global human genetic history.

The Andaman Islands were populated very early in the history of human dispersal from Africa — the ancestors of the Andamanese appear to have arrived by the same southern coastal route that eventually led to the peopling of Australia and New Guinea, and the Andamanese have remained relatively isolated on their island archipelago since that early arrival.
