“He has a cabin near the river,” I said.

“He goes there when he wants to avoid people.”

“We sent a deputy out there,” Harris said, setting the pen down on the table.

“The cabin was locked and the truck was gone.”

He took a slow sip of his lukewarm water.

“Have you spoken to your mother today?” Harris asked.

“No,” I said, my voice flat.

“I have not answered my phone since last night.”
