That evening, Rebecca studied Matthew differently. He paid cash at the market but never seemed worried about prices. He understood the legal language in the prenuptial contract better than her family attorney.
He took occasional calls outside. Once she heard him say, “Delay the acquisition. I won’t displace three hundred tenants for a quarterly target.” When he returned, she asked who had called.
“A project manager.”
“Do construction workers usually approve acquisitions?”
