Chapter 8 — What He Gave Away

Rebecca stayed at a small inn near Forsyth Park. Amelia called eleven times on the first day. Samuel sent flowers and a message claiming he’d always known Matthew was dangerous.

Rebecca threw the flowers away.

On the second morning, Franklin Webb arrived at the inn carrying a sealed envelope. “I’m not here to persuade you,” he said.

“What is it?”

“Documents Mr. Mercer asked me to deliver.”

Inside was a signed annulment agreement. Matthew had waived every right. Also included were permanent debt releases for Belmont Maritime, a transfer returning all collateral to Rebecca, and the deed to the apartment building where Lucy lived.
