Lucy considered the question seriously. “He can borrow him.”
“That sounds fair.”
“But only when I’m in the room.”
Matthew came in, his work boots leaving faint dust on the floor. Rebecca looked at him. “You’re cleaning that.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
He kissed Lucy’s forehead, touched the baby’s tiny hand, and wrapped one arm around Rebecca. Outside, evening light moved across the river.
