History relevant to safety.
I submitted a victim-impact statement.
Shorter than people expected.
I did not describe Afghanistan.
Did not mention the Purple Heart except to identify the event.
I wrote:
The injury affected my ability to work, sleep, train, and feel safe in ordinary spaces. The assault also forced me to confront a family pattern in which her behavior was repeatedly minimized. I am asking the court for a sentence that recognizes the seriousness of the physical attack and for a no-contact order that allows me to recover without further pressure.
That was it.
