Rachel tapped the pen cap against her teeth.

“I’ve been checking that for three weeks.

This is the first payment that went straight into it.”

I put the survey page on her desk.

“Frank kept the garage parcel separate.”

Rachel looked at the blue ink.

“Then the lien is against a lot that was never part of the house mortgage.”
