“Both of you.”

Colton moved toward him.

“You don’t order me around.”

I pressed the call button so hard the plastic creaked.

A nurse appeared almost immediately, followed by a nursing supervisor who took one look at my face, the men standing near my bed, and the baby in my arms.

“Is there a problem here?” she asked.

“Yes,” I said.

It was the most important word I had spoken in months.

“My husband threatened me.

He tried to take my baby.

I do not want him or his father in this room.”

Colton laughed sharply.

“She’s exhausted.

She doesn’t know what she’s saying.”
