Caroline Brought Her Three Children to a Newport Hotel After an Invitation Came in the Mail
Ten autumns after the nurse brought the final billing sheet, Caroline spread the blueprints for the harbor boutique hotel across the main drafting table.
The brass plaque on the front door on Mill Street had been polished every Monday for six years.
Seabrook Living now filled two floors of the brick building, with twelve drafting tables upstairs and four design assistants managing active construction sites along the coast.
Paige Miller tucked a cedar pencil behind her right ear and set the morning mail beside the scale ruler.
“The granite samples for the hotel lobby arrived from the quarry,” Paige said.
