I turned in my chair to face Mark.

“This isn’t just a quitclaim deed,” I said.

Mark stopped tapping his shoe.

“It’s a standard full release package.”

“Paragraph four says I give up the right to look at any bank accounts from this year,” I said.

“And it says I accept joint responsibility for any personal credit lines.”

“That’s just legal boilerplate to protect both of us from old credit card balances,” Mark said, adjusting his tie knot twice in quick succession.

“We don’t have any joint credit card balances,” I said.
