Colin, Jenna & Wesley — The Broken Promise
It was handwritten, two pages long, and folded into a plain envelope.
She did not ask to see Wesley.
She wrote about the first night Jenna became ill, the way Diane insisted the new mother was exaggerating, and how Brooke had followed along because confronting her mother felt harder than believing her.
Then she admitted something I’d not expected.
She’d taken Jenna’s phone deliberately, intending to stop the calls.
When Jenna asked for it back, Brooke told her I’d agreed it was better for her to rest.
I read that paragraph three times.
