“Look at the index reference number in the margin.”

“That reference number points to a sealed secondary intent note,” Clara said in her dry, polite tone.

“It was filed late in the fall of 2012, right before Thomas had his stroke.”

“Did my father ever pull this volume?” I asked.

“Your father asked for the standard title summary,” Clara said.
