“Conquest Man” — The 1,000-Year-Old Man Buried At St Peter’s Church In Barton-upon-Humber, England, Whose Face Scientists Reconstructed In 2026
The Conquest Man project is not complete.
Projects of this kind rarely are.
The Francis Crick Institute continues to develop new methods for ancient DNA analysis, increasing the resolution and reliability with which ancient genomes can be characterized.
Future analysis of Conquest Man’s DNA may yield additional information about his ancestry as these methods improve.
The broader dataset from St Peter’s Church, Barton, including the more than 2,800 other burials, will continue to be studied.
Population-level analysis of the site’s genetic and isotopic data, compared across centuries, will help contextualize where Conquest Man fits within the longer history of the community.
