“Conquest Man” — The 1,000-Year-Old Man Buried At St Peter’s Church In Barton-upon-Humber, England, Whose Face Scientists Reconstructed In 2026
St Peter’s Church itself is extraordinary in its own right.
It is a Grade I listed building, the highest level of historic designation available in England, and it has been described as one of the most intensively studied parish churches in the United Kingdom.
Archaeological excavations beginning in 1978 and continuing through 1984 investigated most of the interior and a significant section of the surrounding churchyard.
The study continued through 2007.
The church’s history goes back to the Anglo-Saxon period.
