PART 14
A letter from Eleanor arrived two days before Ruth’s visit.

It was six pages long, handwritten on expensive stationery.

She described the sacrifices she had made raising Chloe and me, her disappointment in my attitude, and how humiliating it had been to have her card declined in Miami.

Halfway through, she admitted she had taken groceries because she felt the family had bought too much food.

Then she blamed Maya for “creating a hostile atmosphere.”
I read the letter once and placed it in the evidence folder.

I did not read it aloud to Maya.
