Don’t Count It Tonight
I kept a paper day planner until 2017.
I have them in a plastic tub in a storage unit in Pflugerville because I am the kind of person who does not throw out a box.
I went out there on the Tuesday and I found 2014 and I turned to June.
And on Thursday the nineteenth of June 2014, on the line for that day, under a note about a DOT inspection and a note about a tire quote, in my own handwriting, in the same pen:
C. called office.
Don’t.
Don’t.
I wrote that.
Two words, in a day planner, on a Thursday, and then I went and did a DOT inspection.
I have thought about those two words more than I have thought about anything else in my adult life, and here is the best I have been able to do with them.
