I stood in that hallway for about four seconds and made a decision that I have gone over many times and would make again.
I said, “Mom, can I talk to you in the study for a minute.”
Not in front of eleven people.
Not at the table, not with an audience, not the way it happens in the version of this that people enjoy.
Because I did not want a scene.
