My stomach tightened.

“Eight feet?”

“Eight feet and four inches, to be exact,” Carl said.

He made a pencil mark on a yellow notepad.

“But I need to run the line from the front pin near the road before I can sign off on a certified survey.”

“How long does that take?” I asked.

“I will have the official drawings ready by Thursday afternoon,” Carl said, hooking the tape measure back onto his leather belt.

“I have to verify the road easement first.”
