Every Evening, My Husband Tipped Two Drops From a Small Dark Glass Bottle Into My Tea
“It runs continuously, Mr.
Vance,” Attorney Lin said smoothly.
“It has been recording since you stepped into this room.”
Evelyn looked from the ceiling camera down to Daniel’s heavy, drooping eyelids.
She watched him try to pick up his fallen glasses case, his fingers clawing uselessly at the smooth wood like a man trying to pick up coins under water.
A look of pure dread crossed Evelyn’s face as she stared at the man sitting beside her.
She had supplied the drops herself, and she knew exactly what it looked like when the drug took hold.
“You idiot,” Evelyn whispered, leaning far away from him on the leather bench.
“What did you drink this morning?”
“Just my espresso,” Daniel mumbled, his jaw going slack as he tried to keep his eyes focused on her face.
“The same dark roast I drink every morning.”
I unzipped my black handbag, reached inside, and pulled out two neat stacks of paper stapled at the top corner.
I placed the first stack in the middle of the table, directly between Evelyn and Attorney Lin.
