So I built the other thing instead.

I took the rage that two years had sharpened into a blade, and instead of leaving it buried in Roman, I turned it into a clinic — a place for the erased and the framed, the ones who didn’t cry on command, the ones the story got written about without their consent.

Every case that comes through those doors is, in a sense, my own case, fought again with the resources I didn’t have the first time, for someone who is where I was.

That is the thing that finally made me whole, and it is a thing revenge could never have given me: not the ending of his story, but the beginning of theirs.
