“Denise, please,” Trevor said.

“Tell Garrett I wasn’t the one making those decisions.

I was following directives from above.”

“You can make your whole case to the investigators,” I said.

“Did you sign off on the altered balance sheets, Trevor?” He couldn’t say no.

He couldn’t say anything.

“During the divorce,” I reminded him, quietly, “you told me every adult has to take responsibility for their own choices.” He lowered his head and said he hadn’t understood how far it would go.
