Chapter 15 — The Theft Finished the Job

Amber turned on her new husband first.

“You told me the house was ours.” Then she turned on me, her voice rising.

“You’re destroying him.

Over a chair?”

“No,” I said.

“The chair only exposed you.

The theft finished the job.” Because it was not, in the end, the glue or the mockery that undid them, however much they deserved to be undone for those alone.
