Fifty-One Hours
What I will write is the outcome, because the outcome is the story.
He was resuscitated.
He was stabilized.
He was taken to the neonatal intensive care unit at 6:29 in the evening on the second of March, one floor above the room where I was, and he was started on therapeutic hypothermia — cooling — which is the treatment for what he had, and which has to be started within six hours, and which was started within forty-eight minutes.
He was alive for fifty-one hours.
